Ever since Yan Luoxi and Li An registered their marriage, Li An has spent almost twenty hours a day at home. Today, however, when he's not around, she feels rather unaccustomed to it.
The sky gradually darkened outside, making Luoxi inexplicably restless; Li An had said that he would be back tonight!
She couldn't understand herself—when he was in front of her, she found him annoying, but now when he's not around, it feels even more so. She almost wanted to scream from this senseless vexation.
Holding back the urge, Luoxi sat on the sofa watching TV, fidgeting with the channels which drew a few glances from her mother; feeling guilty, she put down the remote and went into the baby's room to soothe him.
Usually, seeing the child would instantly clear all her worries away but today even this magic solution didn't work.
A while in the baby's room, Luoxi couldn't bear it anymore and walked back to her own bedroom. Several times she reached for the phone, intending to call Li An and argue with him about where he was and why he didn’t keep his word. But just as she was about to dial, she threw the phone aside.
What's gotten into me It’s only a regular evening; it's not yet eight o'clock, so if there were business engagements, it would be normal for him not to have returned by now.
Luoxi went into the bathroom and took a shower, which helped alleviate her restless feelings somewhat.
Lying in bed, Luoxi finally came to terms with one truth: she was dependent on Li An again, deeply and irretrievably.
She bitterly smiled at the ceiling, finding it incredible that people could remain calm and rational in daily life by explaining everything with various reasons. Yet, a small farewell can make emotions overpower reason, leading one to rediscover their heart and willingly face eternal calamities.
Lì An finished handling matters on his end and flew back the same afternoon. These days, he spent time with Yán Luoxi and their daughter; just being away for half a day made him miss them deeply—it truly showed how chivalry can be short-lived while love is long-lasting.
He originally planned to go straight home after landing, but upon getting off the plane, he received a call from his secretary saying that one of their subsidiary companies' construction sites had collapsed with two workers trapped underneath.
In the past, Lì An would have sent a relevant manager to handle such situations; he most disliked dealing with chaotic scenes and interacting with reporters and family members of victims.
However, after seeing his older brother and father earlier today, a positive energy filled him, reminding him that men should take responsibility. He instructed the driver who came to pick him up to head straight for the accident site.
Lì An had thought he would quickly handle things there and make it home in time to see his wife and child, but the situation at the scene was more complicated than expected. As soon as he arrived, he threw himself into tense and busy work; when he looked at his watch again, it was already past eight o'clock in the evening.
The accident site had been largely handled by then, and those trapped had successfully been rescued. Follow-up operations were proceeding smoothly and orderly; leaders from relevant departments expressed deep regret and nervously invited the busy Lì An to have dinner with them.
Exhausted from a hectic afternoon of work, Lì An was indeed hungry but even more so for Yán Luoxi and his child. He declined their hospitality and asked the driver to take him home immediately.
Throughout the ride, Lì An thought about Yán Luoxi's face and that of little Zhǎn Yán. As soon as the car stopped in front of Xué’s house, seeing the faint yellow light coming from Yán Luoxi's room gave him a sudden sense of peace.
The light was on; Yán Luoxi was there.
Lian felt that all the impetuous agitation in his heart miraculously calmed down.
He quietly entered the room, first to check on his beloved daughter. Seeing her sleeping soundly and deeply, he couldn't resist bending down to kiss his daughter's little face. Then he stood beside his daughter's crib, smiling as he watched for a while before turning around and entering Yan Luoxi's room.
Yan Luoxi was lying in bed but not asleep. When Lian's car stopped outside, she heard it. The original resentment faded away instantly upon learning that Lian had returned.
Hearing Lian's footsteps go to the next room where their baby girl slept, Yan Luoxi smiled happily; she was glad they shared a common love for their daughter.
She lay in bed and heard Lian open her bedroom door and cautiously approach. She saw his handsome face come into view before her, then smelled the faint scent of tobacco that she knew so well.
Lian didn't expect Yan Luoxi to be awake. When their eyes met, he was somewhat surprised and asked nervously, "Did I wake you up"
"Yes," Yan Luoxi replied without hesitation; this rascal had prevented her from getting any sleep at all.
Lian bent down to kiss Yan Luoxi's face and whispered an apology, saying, "Sorry, there were work matters with the company that delayed my return." Then he lay beside her, sighing comfortably, "It feels so good to finally lie next to you."
Yan Luoxi yielded to her heart tonight and didn't demand Lian leave. She let him stay by her side.
In the dim light from the floor lamp, she could see Lian's slightly disheveled hair, fine lines barely noticeable at the corners of his eyes, and a touch of weariness on his face, which suddenly made her heartache deeply.
Lian felt extremely tired today, and lying next to Yanluoxi made him feel incredibly at ease. As drowsiness overcame him, he fell into a hazy sleep.
Yanluoxi greedily watched Lian sleeping soundly; he looked like an innocent big child at this moment. She lovingly draped one corner of the blanket over Lian, as the night air in late autumn had turned chilly.
She leaned down to look at Lian for a while and then closed her eyes, feeling peaceful and warm inside.
People can be really strange sometimes. No matter how much someone might have hurt you or made you sad and angry before, they could still easily open your heart, making you feel pain and compassion.
This was perhaps the preciousness and helplessness of emotions
Yanluoxi hadn't lain next to Lian like this for a long time. Once everything settled down, she felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Lian was particularly close to her now; their heads were practically touching, as they lay side by side. She wore only a thin silk nightgown, while Lian had on an linen shirt. She could clearly feel the heat emanating from his skin, mixed with a scent that made her heart race. All of this invaded her without any resistance.
Yanluoxi suddenly recalled those intimate days she spent with Lian in the past, and her face flushed involuntarily. She shifted slightly backward but felt the distance wasn't enough, so she moved back again.
"Baby, are you treating me like a dead person by moving around like that" In the darkness, Lian's voice, soft yet with a hint of amusement, sounded.nite委屈.Formerly, Lian had been full of confidence and charisma, proud and capricious.Yan Luoxi bit her lip; she knew that what she did was a bit too much. She was a woman with a soft heart who couldn't...
