Li An's back stiffened slightly, his eyebrows deeply furrowed. Upon hearing the maid from Yan Luoxi’s household chatting with a fish vendor about her pregnancy, it was as if he had been struck by lightning, all the blood in his body quickly retreating. At this moment, he couldn’t think straight and just wanted to escape, not wanting to hear these two people talk nonsense here.

Yan Luoxi is pregnant—this can't be true! This absolutely cannot be true!

Li An wanted to run away but his feet felt rooted to the ground, preventing him from moving. He could only passively listen as the woman next to him chattered happily, which sounded like the most irritating noise.

The unexpected news of Yan Luoxi's pregnancy hit Li An too hard. No matter how much he thought about it, he never imagined that Yan Luoxi would get together with Shao Junhe so quickly and then become pregnant.

Previously, Li An had considered the possibility that Yan Luoxi might live with Shao Junhe. Whenever this thought crossed his mind, he felt a deep sense of humiliation, as if someone else had slept with his wife, causing him immense pain.

Last night, when he climbed through the window into Yan Luoxi’s bedroom and found out that she wasn’t living together with Shao Junhe, Li An finally felt some relief from his constant anxiety. He even began to feel elated and started thinking of ways to get Yan Luoxi back from Shao Junhe.

Just as a ray of hope was starting to appear in his life, just when he was feeling full of joy, the sudden news that Yan Luoxi is pregnant hit him like falling from heaven into hell, an overwhelming calamity.

The maid from Yan Luoxi’s household happily took the fish from the vendor and turned around. She saw a tall, handsome man dressed in a white shirt standing behind her. He was frowning at her with his lips pressed tightly together; the sunlight cast upon him gave him an ethereal silver glow that made him look like he wasn’t of this world—mysterious and cold, like a demon from hell.

The maid was frightened by the cold aura emanating from Li An and, clutching her fish, hurriedly ran off. She kept glancing back to see if Li An was following.

At this moment, Li An felt utterly disheartened; how could he possibly have the heart to chase after the maid

If Yan Luoxi had not gotten pregnant, he might still be shameless enough to compete with Shao Junhe. But now that she was pregnant and carrying Shao Junhe's child, how could he do something so despicable.

Li An walked slowly forward; everything before him seemed blurry. His selfishness would never be forgiven again, nor would he have a way to turn back. When he finally regained his senses and wanted to start over, all the mistakes would be sealed in place like molten iron poured into a mold.

He couldn’t even remain here any longer to secretly watch Yan Luoxi; he could never enter her space again. In the future, no matter how happy she was with Shao Junhe, he could only envy them.

Li An walked slowly back and returned to his rented villa. Blankly, he packed up his belongings—he had to leave this place completely!

He looked one last time at the villa where Yan Luoxi lived, at the tree-lined path in front of it that she would lightly walk past every day, at the rocking chair on her terrace that she sat in to read books, and at the little eight-gram bird hanging by its cage outside a window that she would talk to when she had time...

Everything was familiar to him because they were all associated with Yan Luoxi. But now, he no longer had the right to observe them.

Li An closed his eyes and suppressed the sting in them as despair, disappointment, and sadness washed over him like waves. He turned around and unbuttoned his shirt collar but still felt short of breath. Finally, with three steps becoming two, he quickly reached his car, started it up swiftly, and sped away.

Yan Luoxi and Shao Junhe laughed and chatted as they came back from outside. Seeing the servant boiling fish soup in the kitchen, they thanked him and then went to play with the talking parrot.

When Shao Junhe was picking fruit in the orchard, he dirtied his pants and returned to change clothes.

The servant grumbled to Yan Luoxi about a strange man she had met at the market, but the exhaust hood was on in the kitchen, so Yan Luoxi didn't hear clearly. She just hummed along without really listening.

After lunch, lying down for a rest, Yan Luoxi called her mother again. Praise God, this time Xue Liping had finally returned from her travels. Yan Luoxi briefly told her where she was and asked Xue Liping to come over.

Xue Liping, upon hearing that her daughter finally invited her, happily agreed without asking more questions, saying she could fly over the day after tomorrow.

Yan Luoxi didn't mention her current situation on the phone; it was too complicated to explain in a few words. She thought it best to wait until her mother arrived.

Knowing her mother would be arriving soon, she had to let Shao Junhe know somehow. Thinking about their conversation later that afternoon, Yan Luoxi felt a headache coming on and sighed softly.

She didn't want to create any ambiguity with Shao Junhe, but it was hard to bear so flagrantly hurting such a good person.

After her nap, Yan Luoxi went out onto the balcony for some sun. Not surprisingly, Shao Junhe came over as well, chatting while he peeled pine nuts for her to eat.

"If my child inside can grow up healthily, a big part of the credit goes to you." Yan Luoxi was munching on the delicious pine nuts and smiled at Shao Junhe without any guile.

"Then let him call me daddy in the future. I guarantee that he will be healthy all his life," Shao Junhe glanced at Yan Luoxi with a somewhat profound look.

These days, the more he interacted with Yan Luoxi, the more he felt she was wonderful and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. As such, he couldn't help but hint subtly that he hoped for a relationship with her.

Yan Luoxi turned around and looked at the distant sea, after which she said softly, "Brother Douzi, my mom is coming to pick me up tomorrow or the day after."

The hand of Shao Junhe that was peeling pine nuts stopped abruptly. He looked at Yan Luoxi in surprise and bewilderment.

Yan Luoxi smiled gently at him, "What I said is true; my mom really will be coming over tomorrow. Brother Douzi, thank you for taking care of me and helping me these past days."

Shao Junhe felt somewhat awkward. He knew he was hoping against hope; all this while he had been dreaming during the day, and now his dream was about to end—He could no longer pretend that he hadn't woken up.

If Yan Luoxi didn’t explicitly ask him to leave, he couldn’t continue pretending he didn’t understand her situation.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, he lowered his head and thought for a moment before saying, "Luoxi, I'll wait until your mom comes and then leave. Once I see her here, I’ll feel at ease." Seeing hesitation in Yan Luoxi's eyes, Shao Junhe hurried to add, "You can rest assured; as soon as she arrives, I guarantee that I will leave without pestering you."cause she knew long ago that Sun Zijun was an unreliable person, but she felt sad for her mom.It really is true that one’s fortunes affect family members; both she and her mother were abandoned by the...
