This time, Yan Luoxi did not rush to struggle out of Ran Xu's embrace. He was still asleep, his thick, dark lashes hanging quietly, making his already handsome face even more stunning.
Yan Luoxi leaned against Ran Xu gently, her eyes closed in submission, breathing occasionally as if in conversation with the moment. She suddenly felt that this moment could also be considered beautiful.
Ran Xu was woken up by footsteps outside the door. He opened his eyes abruptly and looked at Yan Luoxi cuddled in his arms. For a few seconds, he was surprised, then joy spread across his eyebrows as if clear, bright eyes were like two dew-covered grapes, or perhaps countless stars of happiness had fallen into them.
Yan Luoxi felt an unprecedented sense of ease and gentleness. Since she decided to start a new life, she would open her heart and embrace it warmly.
The two got up together, washed up, tidied the room, then walked out hand in hand. Uncle Chang and Aunt Chang had already gotten up early and were busy preparing breakfast. Seeing the tender affection between Ran Xu and Yan Luoxi, they smiled at each other before turning away.
"Luoxi, shall we take a walk around the town The scenery here is beautiful!" Ran Xu looked down to ask for Yan Luoxi's opinion.
"Sure." Yan Luoxi answered cheerfully.
Just as they reached the front door, Yu Hong came back hastily with a large bunch of pretty wildflowers. Seeing Ran Xu holding hands with Yan Luoxi and walking out, she looked somewhat disappointed as she asked, "Brother Ran, are you going out I... I picked back your favorite wild lilies for you."
"Thank you. Could you please help me bring it inside I want to take Sister Luo Xi for a walk around the neighborhood," Ran Xu smiled gently at Yu Hong.
Yan Luoxi keenly sensed that Yu Hong was quite smitten with Ran Xu, but there was nothing impure in his feelings towards her.
Yu Hong nodded gloomily. Looking at Yan Luoxi bathed in the morning light, she thought this woman's skin was truly flawless, like the color of a pristine white sail—translucent and clean. From where she stood, she could see fine down on Yan Luoxi’s face and her eyes sparkling with vitality, stunning yet not glaring.
As she watched Ran Xu and Yan Luoxi walk away hand in hand, Yu Hong felt bitter and resentful. She silently kicked a few pebbles on the ground. The woman was beautiful indeed; it was no wonder Brother Ran liked her so much that he wanted to marry her.
She sighed softly and then thought of Mei Sister who had passed away long ago, as well as the heartbreak Brother Ran experienced over those years. She felt reluctant again. What could this woman bring How could she possibly replace Mei Sister in Brother Ran’s heart Gazing at Yan Luoxi's departing figure, her eyes narrowed slightly.
Because they woke up early, the entire town was still asleep. They walked along a flat road for some distance and left the town; lush greenery immediately came into view.
The verdant greens were incredibly dense, as if dyeing all colorful flowers in the mountains with green hues. Everything seemed to be filled with vibrant vitality.
They strolled until they reached a riverside where small boats passed by them; there were two bamboo baskets at the front of each boat containing freshly-caught fish that were still jumping about. The clear river reflected the verdant mountains on both banks, making for a breathtakingly beautiful sight.
Yan Luoxi was delighted as she followed Ran Xu and looked around everywhere. With a light smile, he narrated to her some funny stories of his childhood, those warm yet mundane anecdotes, like clear streams flowing slowly into Yan Luoxi’s heart.
After last night, Yan Luoxi vaguely felt that her relationship with Ran Xu had changed.
When they returned to the town, wisps of cooking smoke began to drift in the air. As they passed by houses one after another, elderly people stood at their doors, and children ran around outside them. Occasionally, they would meet a few people who knew Ran Xu; these acquaintances greeted him warmly and chatted with him in the local dialect.
Ran Xu would squat down halfway, smiling as he spoke to them. No one treated him like a big star but rather like a child from a relative's home.
On their way back, Luoxi asked curiously, "I noticed that there are more children and elderly people in this town compared to young adults and middle-aged folks."
"You've observed closely!" Ran Xu praised her by ruffling her hair. "Around here, most of the grown men have gone out to work for a living, leaving their elders and children at home."
When they returned to Uncle Chang's house with Ran Xu leading the way, the small courtyard was suddenly bustling with activity. A square table in the center of the yard was laden with candies, fruits, tea, and seated around were many people who applauded upon seeing them.
Seeing this scene, Luoxi was taken aback. What's going on here
Aunt Chang rushed over to explain that old neighbors had heard Ran Xu had brought his fiancée back home and all came over to see what the new bride looked like.
Ran Xu perhaps hadn't expected such a reception either, whispering an apology to Luoxi.
Yan Luoxi faced this thick sense of nostalgia with a straight back, allowing Aunt Chang to introduce her to their neighbors.
For every person she met, Yan Luoxi would respectfully address them. She would light a cigarette for men and offer them a candy for women.
The nearby aunties and neighbors showed great interest and affection towards Ran Xu's pretty and amiable young wife, warmly inviting her to sit at the table by their side, chatting with her without end, and even offering her snacks from the table as if she were truly part of their family now.
Yan Luoxi sat among them smiling, listening to their conversation. In reality, they all spoke in dialects that she barely understood; however, hearing them mention "Xu" repeatedly made it clear that their conversations mainly revolved around Ran Xu.
In this thick atmosphere of nostalgia, Yan Luoxi had breakfast with everyone else. Afterward, the people kindly dispersed to give the newly smitten young couple some privacy.
Ran Xu pulled Yan Luoxi into the house and hurriedly apologized: "Sorry for making you go through all that!"
"Go through what I think I did a pretty good job as a new bride, huh" Yan Luoxi laughed, sticking out her tongue playfully.
For some reason, she felt today's festivities truly made her feel like Ran Xu’s wife, and she happily immersed herself in the celebratory, harmonious atmosphere.
A genuine smile of joy spread across Ran Xu's face. He raised his hand to pinch Yan Luoxi’s nose. Just as he was about to say something, Uncle Chang called him from outside.
